Marijuana Use in Children and Teens: What's the Story?
The use of medical marijuana for children is controversial. But epilepsy researchers are studying its effects as a treatment to minimize intractable seizures. Dr. Colin Roberts, Doernbecher’s epilepsy specialist, will talk about how epilepsy treatment has led to better understanding of marijuana’s properties and its applications in children.
However, there are negative effects of cannabis that have been observed in adolescents, including impaired short-term memory and decreased concentration and attention span. Dr. Carrie Phillipi, general pediatrician and medical director of the Mother Baby Unit, will discuss the effects of marijuana on teenagers and the developing brain.

Oswego Friends raised $10,000 for Doernbecher Children's Hospital on May 21 during the Chevy Shopping Social!
Thanks so much for coming down to Pioneer Courthouse Square to help us with the Chevy Shop Social event. Your contributions made a difference. A big THANK YOU to all our volunteers that helped with the event along with the team from Chevy and SheBuysCars.
The $10,000 will support Oswego Friends’ new Doernbecher lecture series, the Friends of Doernbecher Grant Program, which provides start-up funds for new services and research, and the Knight Cancer Challenge. You will be pleased to hear that we have only $21 million to go to achieve the $500 million goal for the Knight Challenge.
